PSA competition accolades!

We are off to a great start for 2017!

At our January meeting, various club members who had judges PSA entries and the Member Show entries, offered suggestions as to what could make the photo a “great” photo and a possible PSA entry! We encourage our members to submit more photos for PSA competitions.

Our next deadline is February 15th.

Congratulations to Carolyn Collmer and Pat Gallagher who received the highest and second highest scores respectively for their submissions to the PSA competitions for 2015/2016. Their scores were combined between the Club judges and the PSA judges.

Sept 19, 2016 Meeting highlights

We had another great meeting tonight. Thank you to our presenter, Dr. Robert “Bob” Powell, Associate Professor and Director of Clemson University Institute for Parks,  who gave us a history lesson on the Georgia Island in Anartica and took us back 20 years when he and two friends took an adventurous trip to the Georgia Islands, Antarctica with the intention of circumnavigating the island with kayaks. As he said, they planned the trip from the comforts of their couch at home. Little did they know what they were in for! He had great photos and kept us quite entertained on their exploits. The photos were great! Imagine taking 5 cameras of varying quality and the only one to  come through the 50-day trip was the least expensive point and shoot! This island even though it is so isolated has seen the effects of man — birds with hooks stuck in their beaks and seals with fishing line around their necks to name two. As a result of this excursion, Bob went back to University to earn his PhD from Yale and has been back 8 or 9 times since then and has circumnavigated the whole island with a kayak with another researcher for the purpose of counting birds in areas where only kayaks could reach.

Our deadline to submit photos for the Club’s Member Show has been extended to Sunday, September 25. For information on the member exhibit, please click on the link. This is a Clemson Photoclub only Member Show.

We are gearing up for the PSA photo contests. We accumulated 213 points out of a possible total of 278 points for the Fall 2015/Spring 2016 contests. We look forward to more members participating in these contests. Our Club is in Section E – “Go For It”. We are not participating in any themed contests. The deadline for photo submissions is October 15 and December 15, 2016, February 15 and April 15, 2017.

Have a good evening!
